To-Do List
50.11.6 And things I still need to do: - Intervene in the Travis situation. I can’t believe how long this mess is taking to resolve. - Have Sleer finish writing that security protocol manual. I’ve been too busy to get to it, of late. - Continue to monitor Lindor Strategy. Soon, the planet should be back in the Federation, where it belongs. - Still looking for Ensor, Avalon, and while I’m at it, that Stannis woman – just to make a point. - Get more dirt on the President. There’s something about his attitude towards me that just makes me nervous. - I almost forgot – that favor for Viktor – flush Sula’s old boyfriend out of whatever hole he’s crawled into. I must admit, I’m looking forward to this one. It will be fun to have him interrogated – he looks like he would suffer beautifully. Today’s diversion: #266 Grae Folman. Black hair, green eyes (I love green eyes!) recon pilot. Dashing, but a little too quick, if you know what I mean. Rating 5.9. Current Mood: busy | | Thursday, June 1st, 2006 | | 1:41 pm |
Enemies List
50.11.5 And now, time to take stock of my enemies: - Kasabi. Slowly but surely, my plans concerning her are taking shape. She’ll rue what happened back at the academy. - LeGrand. That insufferable woman continues to stir up trouble. - Avalon. She is a dangerous criminal, and cannot be left at large. - Bercol and Rontaine. Someday, I will have to deal with these two twits. - The Clonemasters. They’ll learn better than to insult me. - Sula. Oh, I know this is irrational. She just grates on me. I don’t think she likes me either. It was loathe at first sight. Today’s diversion # 265: Benton Veslane. Brown hair, blue eyes, systems analyst. Quite systematic – exhausting, in a way. Rating 7.3. Current Mood: predatory | | Monday, May 29th, 2006 | | 5:46 pm |
The Year in Review
50.11.4 I’ve been Supreme Commander for a whole year now. Let’s look back on what I have accomplished: - Made considerable progress against dissidents on Albion, Saurian Major and Auros. - Located those dangerous criminals Kasabi and Shivan. - Positioned a close personal friend on the high council. - Created an influential alter ego – Violetta Sleer – positioned in Central Intelligence. - Located an excellent jeweler, found a new hairdresser, established a spa at Space Command Headquarters, and established connections to get free designer fashions. - Authorized the construction of the new Starburst Class Pursuit ships. All in all, a good year. Today’s diversion: #244 (repeat performance). Because I deserve the best. Rating 9.2. Current Mood: satisfied | | Friday, May 5th, 2006 | | 7:44 am |
Joy!
50.10.25 The second shipment of earrings has arrived – at long last. And they were worth the wait. While he was here, Torginnin showed me something truly extraordinary. The Gemini Galaxelle, the largest and most lovely star galaxelle ever discovered. He explained that in order to reveal the asterism, the galaxelle had to be divided anyway, so he decided to have it made into two perfectly matching gems to be set into earrings. He immediately thought of me. Of course I must have them. Today’s diversion: #259 (repeat performance). Better – but no discount this time. Sigh! Rating 8.2. Current Mood: giddy | | Thursday, April 27th, 2006 | | 8:45 am |
Patience is a virtue
50.9.15 I could settle this Travis affair right now, if I were willing. I have a psychostrategist who will testify that Travis’ actions were the result of stress brought on by the Blake incident. Unfortunately, if that happens, Travis will inevitably be sent for therapy to deal with his unresolved hatred of Blake. I don’t want that to happen. Somehow, I feel that I can use that resentment to good advantage. So I continue to keep Travis suspended, stalling on holding the hearing. LeGrand is out for blood. I have to wait until she’s at a disadvantage to resolve the matter. Today’s diversion: #78 (repeat performance). Jaxxon Hileigh, a friend from my early days at the academy. He was always such a troublemaker! Rating 8.4. Current Mood: restless | | Wednesday, April 26th, 2006 | | 5:45 am |
Keeping my options open for a new career ( Read more... )Interesting results...the loyalty of shinyredpursuit is without question...so I should form an alliance with Avon and Kerril (as long as Orac is included in the deal) and get rid of Jarvik. Also, Dayna will never give up her vendetta. Yes, this makes sense. I could hope for higher income, however. | | Monday, April 24th, 2006 | | 5:52 am |
Fabulosity
50.9.2 House Astraline and Mars Atelier are sending me their complete collections for the upcoming season. Some very classy frocks – I love the use of natural feathers in the Astraline accessories. But the real score would be to get Venusache. I’m working on it. Today’s diversion: #264 Vini Frontille. Blond hair, brown eyes, and the cutest little dimple! Requisitions officer. He was able to procure some fresh strawberries – yum. Has potential, but needs a little training, I think. Rating 7.8. Current Mood: recumbent | | Thursday, April 20th, 2006 | | 12:04 pm |
Plotting...
50.8.23 Sleer’s investigations have turned up something interesting indeed. There’s an undersecretary named Govager who works for Rontaine. It seems he’s totaled up quite a bit of a gambling debt at Freedom City. I think I’ll approach him with a little offer. Today’s diversion: #263 Dav Carmann. Black hair, blue eyes, communications. A very sweet talker. Rating 8.1. Current Mood: devious | | Wednesday, April 19th, 2006 | | 12:42 pm |
Physical fitness
50.8.11 As part of my plan to lose weight, I’ve taken up a new exercise regimen: Toe Qwan Doo “boot camp.” It’s a combination of martial art and endurance training – all done in sky-high heels. The idea is to build up extraordinary leg strength and balance. Today we ran an obstacle course – through swamp, sand, even spelunking, while wearing stilettos. I have a good feeling about this. Somehow, I think these skills will come in handy. Today’s diversion: none. The workout tuckered me out completely. Current Mood: bouncy | | Tuesday, April 18th, 2006 | | 6:51 am |
Popularity
50.8.2 Still sorting through the birthday greetings. Sigh. It is such effort to be so well-loved. Today’s diversion: #242 (repeat performance). I can always count on Dom to put some effort into loving me well. Rating 8.7. Current Mood: loved | | Monday, April 17th, 2006 | | 8:26 am |
Getting Older
50.7.30 Today I am 34. Alexander the Great only made it to 33. And my empire is larger than his. Amidst the piles of greetings from obsequious well-wishers, I received a few gifts of actual significance. Lovely roses from Rai – real ones, from Earth! A true romantic. Also, Antonin sent me a bottle of my favorite perfume, and a box of Rixxian gummatrons. That certainly brings back memories. Antonin always used to let me have the last gummatron in the box. He knew I would beat him up if he didn’t. Ah, the good old days! Today’s diversion: #244 (repeat performance). This is getting to be a habit. Current Mood: rejuvenated | | Friday, April 14th, 2006 | | 2:16 pm |
Patriotism
50.7.18 A reporter from the Ministry of Information interviewed me for a propaganda broadcast. It was quite fun, actually. I was fussed over all day by hair, makeup and wardrobe people, making me look my glamorous self. They had prepared a script, of course, for my “spontaneous” comments. I was allowed to have some input into the dialogue. I changed the line “We must follow the example of our model citizens and dedicate our lives to the well-being of society,” to “We should be inspired by the acts of the heroes of the Federation, freely sacrificing ourselves for the common good.” The director said I could have a second career in speechwriting. I threw a kiss to the troops. That should boost morale! Today’s diversion: #262 Zac Millar. Brown hair, brown eyes, camera operator. He filmed the whole thing, the kinky little devil. But if those vids ever show up in public, I’ll have him eviscerated. Rating 8.2. Current Mood: creative | | Thursday, April 13th, 2006 | | 1:50 pm |
Brilliant idea
50.7.5 I caught the tail end of a spacecast showing the stars of some recvids at an awards show. The announcer commented on how each star was sponsored by a designer, and that the designers provided them with free clothing in exchange for the publicity. Why can’t I do that? My appearances are certainly high profile enough. I am a woman of style. Designers should be clamoring to outfit me. But I will have to lose some weight to fit into the sample sizes. I will make enquiries. Today’s diversion: #261 Will Nolina. Auburn hair, hazel eyes, junior officer. So serious it’s cute. He tried very hard to impress me. Rating 7.6. Current Mood: chipper | | Wednesday, April 12th, 2006 | | 5:53 am |
Ghosts of the past
50.6.27 I had a dream about Don Keller. Every now and again I’m haunted by that affair. I really don’t know why it still continues to upset me, even after all this time. I thought I was in love with him, but I must have been wrong. He left me. I’ve never quite been able to sort out why. I think it must still bother me because of the unsolved mystery, and because he’s the only man I’ve ever had that walked out on me. There was something different about him – once, I actually thought I would be able to make a life with him. We’ve been apart for almost fifteen years, and I haven’t met anyone else that really compares. It’s all for the best, of course. It would be difficult to manage a career like this – and with such success at such a young age – saddled with a husband. I know that he wanted a family, too – did he have any idea how difficult it is for a woman rising through the ranks in the military to have children? I’m afraid that my ambition would have always come between us. So power is my lover – and boys on the side, please. Today’s diversion: none. I’m throwing myself into my work, for now. Current Mood: lonely | | Tuesday, April 11th, 2006 | | 9:41 am |
Backup plans
50.6.17 Councilor Elkin has been arrested for treason. I’m certain that Bercol and Rontaine are behind it with the full support of the President. Of course politics are cutthroat, but for someone so high to fall this fast is shocking. I’m worried a bit about Antonin. That fool had better watch his back. As for me, I’ve been thinking about some options. It occurs to me that the Sleer identity could have some uses other than just intelligence gathering. I’m working on building a very convincing history for her – in case I ever need to “disappear.” Today’s diversion: #260 Alexandre Lescaux. Dark hair and eyes. Engineering corps. Quick witted and suave. Rating 7.8. Current Mood: cynical | | Monday, April 10th, 2006 | | 6:10 am |
Profound musings on womanhood.
50.6.12 I’ve received the first two pairs of earrings. They are exquisite – quite worth the wait! I’ve decided to order a few more – this time getting some exotic gems from the outer worlds. Men just have no idea how much time and effort we women have to spend on appearance. All they have to do is appear neat and clean. I learned early on that a woman who is unbeautiful is ignored, a woman who appears asexual is frowned upon. It’s actually easier for a woman to rule in a gorgeous frock than a pair of coveralls. Father hated my obsession with fashion. He thought it would make me appear frivolous. He was wrong. Glamour is power. Sexuality is power. Today’s diversion: #259 Valse Torginnin. Blond, slightly balding, but with elegant hands. Jeweler. Not half bad – and I got a discount! Rating 7.3. Current Mood: contemplative | | Friday, April 7th, 2006 | | 6:18 am |
Oh the days of youth...
50.6.4 I just came across this picture of me at the academy. It's from my "bohemian" phase. Isn't it hysterical? I'll bet you didn't know I play the sitar! Current Mood: nostalgic | | Thursday, April 6th, 2006 | | 6:03 am |
For the record
50.5.24 The clonemasters refuse to even consider the possibility of strictly reproductive cloning. They will only use their technology “when it is needed” under “The Rule of Life.” They were quite rude about it, the sanctimonious prats. One day, I shall make them sorry. Very sorry. The fact that I find them somewhat intimidating only makes me more determined. I never forget a slight. Today’s diversion #258 Len Thefrinal. Blond, blue eyes, a nice smile. Engineering corps. There is something to be said for using traditional methods. Rating 7.4. Current Mood: disappointed | | Tuesday, April 4th, 2006 | | 6:27 am |
50.5.15 I’ve been using the Sleer identity to dig around at Central Security. The more I dig, the more disgusted I get: 1) Sloppy procedures – since so many of the agents are in deep cover, there is almost no accountability. 2) Intelligence slipups – I can’t believe how much information gets out of that office – and not all of it intentionally planted, either. 3) Turf wars – CenS is always wrangling with Central Intelligence and with the Ministry of Information etc. 4) Missed opportunities – there is nothing that irritates me more than inefficient corruption. Fortunately, I sense great promise in organized, efficient corruption. Central Intelligence is in dire need of a security protocol manual. I think I’ll transfer Sleer over there for the time being. Nothing like writing your own rules! Today’s diversion: #244 (repeat performance) Rai! I’ve missed him. Rating 9.2. Current Mood: busy | | Sunday, April 2nd, 2006 | | 6:36 pm |
A dozen pairs of earrings and two big bores
50.5.1 Visit from Bercol and Rontane. Much joy. Can’t I have those meddling morons gassed? Some good news, at least. Visited by a jeweler from Corvus Secundus. Very high reputation. He showed me some patterns and some exquisite gems. We custom-designed some earrings. They will all be hand-crafted, which will take some time. Of course, it will be exorbitant. But I’m worth it. Today’s diversion: #254 (repeat performance) Quentin DelSarte. Good old Quentin – I needed a laugh after listening to those two windbags all day. Rating 8.1. Current Mood: giggly |
